Pangalay Circle: A Workshop Series & Community Celebration

Pangalay Circle Community Celebration at Kapwa Gardens.

Pangalay Circle centers around workshops and in-person dance circles. We hope to connect community members with seasoned practitioners who specialize in Pangalay dances and other related forms. These local practitioners would serve as the bridge between students and Indigenous culture bearers- channeling movement and lessons through workshops as well as facilitating dialogue through online platforms.

This programming and performance is produced by Kim Requesto, hosted at Kapwa Gardens in the SOMA Pilipinas district of San Francisco, and supported by the Sankofa Fund provided by the Alliance of California for Traditional Arts (ACTA), San Francisco Arts Commission, and Balay Kreative. The culminating performance and community celebration was part of Requesto’s presentation as a Balay Kreative Growth Grantee.

Thank you to all the instructors, attendees, performers, and everyone who supported Pangalay Circle! We hope it encourages you to keep learning, dancing, and being in dialogue with community. Follow @kimrequesto or @pangalaycircle to learn more! If you have questions about Pangalay Circle, please reach out to Kim… and give her time to respond. She appreciates your patience. Magsukol!
